Bonhams is not only the world’s fastest growing auction house, it is also the world’s oldest and largest auctioneer of fine art and antiques still in British ownership. The name Bonhams is recognised worldwide throughout all sectors of the fine art, antiques and collectors market, and several of its departments are established world leaders within their fields. We cover a broad range of items, from paintings to motor cars and cycles, from books to porcelain and contemporary ceramics, jewellery to rivercraft.

In August, 2002, Butterfields & Butterfields, of San Francisco, was acquired by Bonhams, the privately-owned British fine art auction house creating a united company under the new name Bonhams & Butterfields, specializing in the appraisal and sale of fine art, antiques and objects in all collecting categories. Both Bonhams and Butterfields have grown from modest origins to the current ranking as third largest auction house in the world, and continue to grow through a commitment to exceeding client expectations.
Bonhams held its first sale in its New York City Gallery at 595 Madison Avenue on June 10, 2005.

In 2008 Bonhams moved its NY office across the avenue to 580 Madison Avenue where it now occupies three floors of expansive space. The new location allows Bonhams the ability to present, to the world, an expanded variety of goods at auction!
